Weekly Review of Games Broadcast in Your Area

It’s week 5 of the NFL and things are already heating up. Some favorites have fallen, the underdogs keep struggling, and the middle of the road teams are fighting to distinguish themselves on the field. This week’s list of matchups offer some of the most exciting games of the season and if you’re living without cable, you’ll still be able to tune in.

Today we’re going to take a look at the top matchups for week 5 of the NFL and I’ll tell you how you can watch them without a cable subscription. Let’s get started!

Week 5 NFL Schedule

Week 5 Schedule

Now, let’s take a look at what games are being aired, by location:

CBS: Early Sunday Games

5 cbs early

Featured matchup: St. Louis Rams vs. Green Bay Packer, 1:00 PM ET
Although the Green Bay Packers are on a hot streak of 4-0, don’t expect the Rams to be another easy target. The team from St. Louis may be 2-2, but their last victory was over the formidable Arizona Cardinals. With St. Louis leading in the series against Green Bay, it will be interesting to see if history will be able to overcome home-field advantage.

Alternative matchup: Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans, 1:00 PM ET

CBS: Late Sunday Games

5 cbs late

Featured matchup: New England Patriots vs. Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 PM ET
Despite being at home, the Dallas Cowboys will be facing an uphill battle against the Patriots. Still without their start quarterback, Tony Romo, the Cowboys have been 0-2. Even though the Patriots will be coming off a bye-week, the New England team has been incredibly strong this season and it is unlikely that they have lost any of their strength.

Alternative matchup: Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders, 4:25 PM ET

FOX: Sunday Games

5 fox

Featured matchup: Seattle Seahawks vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 1:00 PM ET
The Cincinnati Bengals have looked beautiful this year, and coming into week 5 they hold the advantage over visiting Seattle. However, Seattle is no slouch and overall have been able to match the strength of whatever team they face; we’ll see if it’s enough this week. I think this comes down to Seattle’s offensive line. If they can protect Wilson, then they will win this game.

Alternative matchup: Washington Redskins vs. Atlanta Falcons, 1:00 PM ET

ESPN: Monday Night Football

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. San Diego Chargers
This should be an evenly matched game as both the Steelers and Chargers are 2-2. The Steelers are down their starter quarter back, Roethlisberger, leaving backup quarterback and friend of animals Michael Vick to pick up the slack. With the Chargers riding high after breaking a losing streak, will they strike while the Iron is hot or will Pittsburgh hold them off and stave off a losing streak of their own?

Watching Football Without a Cable Subscription

Now that we know which games are the ones to watch, let’s talk about how we can do that. If you’re lucky to fall within the target market of the broadcast games, then you’re in luck. All you’ll need is an OTA antenna to pick up the game.

But if you’re outside the market of your game of choice then you’ll have to turn to the online service NFL Game Pass. For $99 you get to watch every regular season game, albeit after the initial broadcast. It’s a great way to watch out of market games, and the extras are more than enough to justify the price tag. Try a free 7-day trial and see if you like it. Worst case scenario, you get to watch a game you might have missed; best case scenario, you just found a brand new watch to watch football.

Finally, in order to catch Monday Night Football, you’ll need a subscription to Sling TV; which includes ESPN in its default package. It costs $20, and has a heck of a lot more than just sports; so it’s worth a look even. You can also take advantage of their free 7-day trial; which makes trying it out, completely risk-free.
